My First Week at IC:
Carolina Ferro, Head of School
The first week of classes always brings excitement, expectations, and new beginnings. This year, for me, it had even deeper meaning : it was my first week as part of this community that I admire so much. And I want to share with you, IC families, students, and staff, what I have seen, felt, and confirmed in these first few days.
A school with a strong identity and international vision
When I arrived at International College, I found a school with solid roots, a close-knit community, and an academic program that combines local identity with a global perspective. What I saw during my visit reaffirmed something essential: IC is a place where education is delivered with conviction, professionalism, and purpose. Those who work at IC are talented, knowledge and experience, and are immersed in a culture that deeply values the comprehensive education of its students.
Our integration into Nord Anglia Education represents a qualitative leap for the community, because it allows us to enhance the best of IC with the most innovative experiences, academic networks, and educational models in the world.
It means broadening horizons for our teachers and multiplying opportunities for our students, from the early years through to their pre-university education.
At the same time, this new stage also invites us to take a further step in the systematization of processes, in the clarity of structures, and in the consolidation of common standards that ensure consistency and sustained excellence in every area of the school. Growing also means organizing, aligning, and strengthening what we already do well.
What I observed this first week
In every classroom, at every recess, in every interaction, I saw a real commitment to a type of education that transcends content and builds the future.
This is reflected in:
- Dedicated teacherswho prepare experiences that develop deep skills.
- Active students, curious, eager to explore and move forward.
- A team eager to grow and improve with an openness to dialogue and joint learning.
- Committed familieswho trust IC.
I was also able to identify clear opportunities for improvement: we need to continue strengthening internal communication, structuring better operational processes, and ensuring greater consistency between areas so that the IC experience becomes increasingly consistent and of higher quality. Recognizing these challenges does not weaken who we are; on the contrary, it gives us direction.
Our mission is clear: for every student to find a place where they can learn with enthusiasm, develop holistically, and enjoy an educational experience that transcends.
A new phase that combines pride and responsibility
In this first week, I confirmed three things that mark the new stage we are building:
1. An international education that is experienced on a daily basis
Bilingual learning, critical thinking, cultural openness, and global outreach projects are already part of the IC experience. With NAE, these opportunities are expanded and become even more structured and connected to the world.
2. A comprehensive and coherent educational journey, from Early Years to the IB
Few schools in the region can offer real academic continuity with international standards from ages 1 to 18. Our challenge now is to ensure that this consistency exists not only in the curriculum design, but also in the processes, assessments, and support that underpin each stage.
3. A community built on closeness and trust
IC has something very valuable: a culture of real community. My priority as Head of School is to strengthen those bonds. I want a cohesive school, where every student, every family, and every staff member feels that they are an active part of a common project.
We look ahead with clarity
Today, more than ever, we have the opportunity for IC to shine brightly, showcase what sets us apart, and open doors to a future where our students have more opportunities, more global experiences, and more tools for the world they live in.
The next step is to transform that potential into consistency, ensuring that processes, organization, and planning accompany the level of excellence with which we want to launch every aspect of the school. of excellence with which we want to take off each instance of the school.
We begin this year by sowing seeds for the future, with a united, talented, and committed community, and with determination for what we can become.
With love,
Carolina Ferro
